Overview

Technician, Fiber Installation team members are responsible for working closely and courteously with Residential customers. These Technicians will install, test, turn up and troubleshoot home services in residential environments. 

 

Note: This position may be filled as a level I, level II, or level III depending on experience.  This position is primarily searching for candidates to cover Baldwin and Mobile Counties.

LEVEL I 

  • Install fiber drops from the curb to the home. 
  • Locate, mark, and place fiber in the ground. 
  • Be responsible for company assets such as tools, proprietary Software, & site database. 
  • Locate and alleviate trouble with damaged equipment or cabling. 
  • Adjust, repair, or replace inoperative equipment and test for operation. 
  • Conduct customer premise survey, make recommendations on equipment placement, timely process work order modification and manage schedule impact. 
  • Provide prompt, courteous, and excellent customer service. 
  • Promptly report defective material or equipment, inaccuracies or omissions in job information that may result in inadequate service for customers. 
  • Clean up debris from installation, patch drill holes, and return unused materials. 
  • Follow general safety guidelines as directed by OSHA. 
  • Return customer premise to like or better conditions. 
  • Additional duties as assigned. 

LEVEL II 

  • All the responsibilities of a LEVEL I Technician. 
  • Coordinate, schedule, and oversee day to day activities and priorities of teams as needed at a project level. 
  • Complete service orders without assistance. 
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, according to acceptable standards, and in accordance with C Spire practices. 
  • Coordinate and lead safety meetings as needed or required by management team. 

LEVEL III 

  • All the responsibilities of a LEVEL II Technician. 
  • Conduct customer premise surveys, make recommendations on equipment placement, process work order modification, and manage schedule impact. 
  • Build out construction reports for submission to management. 
  • Keep up to date with applicable OSHA regulations and effectively communicate them to more junior team members. 
  • Develop new approaches to current telecom outside plant network operations. 
  • Assist with the coordination of team efforts that create an efficient work environment. 
  • Assist in the training of contractors so they understand C Spire’s practices and procedures. 
  • Complete QC process of contractors. 

Qualifications

LEVEL I 

REQUIRED 

  • High school diploma or recognized equivalent required. 
  • IPTV or cable or fiber or general construction experience required. 
  • Basic knowledge of fiber, CAT5, and CAT6 color code required. 
  • Must be able to use and operate a drop plow, OTDR, Light Meter, Light Source, and Multi-Meter. 
  • Must possess a high degree of interpersonal skills. 
  • Must maintain an acceptable driving record. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. 

PREFERRED 

  • Experience in the telecommunications industry is preferred. 

LEVEL II 

REQUIRED 

  • All the LEVEL I required qualifications. 
  • At least one year of telecom construction experience required. 
  • At least three years general telecom service delivery or related service required. 
  • Proven ability to splice efficiently in Tyco Splice Enclosures. 
  • Proven ability to splice efficiently in a pedestal. 

PREFERRED 

  • A two-year Associates degree preferred. 
  • At least one year of fiber optic service delivery experience strongly preferred. 

LEVEL III 

REQUIRED 

  • All the LEVEL II required qualifications. 
  • At least one year of fiber optic service delivery experience required. 
  • At least three years of telecom construction experience required.  
  • At least five years in general telecom service delivery or related service required.  

PREFERRED 

  • A two-year Associates degree is strongly preferred. 
  • Previous leadership preferred  

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:   

Must be physically fit, able to lift 50+ lbs.; bend/crouch regularly, extensive walking, etc.  Must be able to work outside in all-weather environments and terrain on a regular basis. Must maintain an acceptable driving record. Must be able to sit for long periods of time and use computer keyboard and/or mouse, while viewing computer screen. Must be available via phone 7X24 hours a day for emergencies and on call as directed. Must be able to work some evenings and weekends in an on call/emergency environment. Regional travel will be required. Occasional longer distance travel required. Must have appropriate driver’s license and be insurance eligible. Must be able to handle and move 50 lbs. or more. Must be able to work on a ladder for an extended period. Must have good hand eye coordination.
